WAVES REGATTA

The team has been busy for the last few weeks , with school coming to an end so did our evening training and day time training beginning. We received our Rooster Gear and it has been an unqualified success. Having everyone wearing the team PFD's is real cool on the water. The opti team seemed real psyched about the gear, its amazing how small the Hikers come from rooster. We did a pre waves training camp and an assortment of sailors were able to make it out, a different group each day it seemed. The weather this year for the Waves Regatta was near perfect with the racing starting on the Friday and a 10kt westerly, with clear sky's. Near 50 Radials were competing and 30+ lasers. Isabella , Alanna and Diego all had good first days in the Radials . Kevin , me and Alex were up at the front in the Lasers. The second day we saw the wind increase from the west topping out at 18kts. Definitely harder on the body for the Masters sailors in the group. Isabella began to dominate the racing , and Kevin moved to the front of the Laser results. The final day was the lightest with the odd puff but generally under 10 kts. the flood tide was running quite well by the last 2 races and staring and rounding marks became quite tricky. Isabella sailed her 2 drops the final races and stayed out front, while I found some old form to sneak to the front of the Laser fleet. Over all an excellent event with warm sunny days and reasonable winds all 3 days and all races sailed (12). Final results-Radials- Isabella Bertold 1st, Diego Reyes 2nd, Alanna Viterry 3rd Lasers-Al Clark 1st , Kevin Grierson 2nd , Alex Heinzman 3rd

Were training at RVYC for a few days this coming week then off to Victoria for the Sail West Regatta Friday thru Sunday. We'll keep you posted Al Clark
